How to Make a Basic Card Base
- Cut cardstock to the base size (example: 8.5" x 5.5" for A2)
- Score at the halfway point (4.25")
- Fold along the score line
- Burnish the fold with a bone folder for a crisp edge
Common Mistakes
- Using the wrong envelope size
- Scoring in the wrong area
- Folding without scoring (can cause cracking)
Pro Tips
- Keep a size chart near your craft space
- Pre-cut a few card bases to save time
- Use heavier cardstock (80–110 lb) for sturdy cards
Once you get comfortable with these standard sizes, you can easily adapt your designs and experiment with custom dimensions.
